History
We have always looked for new ways to compete against Vegas and their competitively priced odds. Whether it be building systems, collecting historic team data, or analyzing public betting trends, our main goal is beating the books - it's that simple. We quickly realized that we were missing a key component of any major league sport, the referees. Referees have the ability to sway the game in favor of a certain team, and in this case, a certain bet. Because public bettors often overlook the impact that certain referees may have, we believe Vegas's odds do not accurately reflect referee trends- giving those who have access to referee data an extra advantage.
With this realization came action. We began to dig deeper in the world of referees, collecting as much data as we could for every ref, in every sport. As the referee data compiled, we started to notice discrepancies. Refs favored certain teams, certain bets, and certain public betting leans. We believed this data was strong enough to consider before placing a bet - so we continuously used it.
It took us a long time to find each applicable referee trend for each game. We had to sort through thousands of data points and actively find ones that were in play, but when we did, it was our golden ticket. We started with the 2023-24 NBA season, manually compiling each referee trend for each game happening the same day. We organized the data by Moneylines, Spreads, and Over/Unders - we figured the best bets would come from betting specific data, and they did. It took us forever to do this manually, but we continued to work and eventually expanded into MLB umpires and NFL referees.
How it works
The main objective of our referee product is to bring us and our members daily, game specific betting trends. The question everyone is asking is: how do we do it? Each day, depending on the sport, our automation scours the internet and finds updated referee assignments. Once the assignments are found, the automation goes to our database and begins building systems using the name of each referee and the stats of the current game said ref is officiating.
Once the initial ref system is built, the automation takes the lines, odds, public bets %'s, and home/away team from the current game and applies them to the pre-built referee system. As the automation adds different factors of the current game, the system gathers valuable data points which are then complied into an organized table.
This process is repeated 3 times for each bet type: Money lines, Spreads, and Over/Unders. Because the automation is on 24/7, any changes to the current game will be automatically updated on the referee table. Because all of our trends are categorized by the 3 bet types above, users can easily see how todays game data affects the betting specific stats of the referee who is officiating - a key reason for this products significance.
Why it works
When it comes to the world of sports data, majority of the things you'll find online are tailored towards historic team/player stats. Very few websites offer live data based on betting. That's exactly why the referee trends are so important. Reading up on historic player/team data can be valuable, however it does not accurately reflect what the nature of the game may look like.
When a referee has certain tendencies, it often affects how the game is going to be played. Knowing those tendencies prior to the start of a matchup can give you incredible predictability value. Since ref 'tendencies' are expressed in the form of betting data, bettors obtain unique edge that other websites / data sets cannot offer.
